THC Could Relieve Some Sclerosis Symptoms

ScierosisA new study, that was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, says marijuana may relieve some symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

Researchers from the University of California, San Diego gave 30 participants either marijuana or placebo cigarettes to smoke over a matter of days.

Those given marijuana had less pain and reduced muscle stiffness.

A few participants who withdrew early from the study reported feeling uncomfortably high, dizzy or fatigue. But researchers say there were no serious negative effects.

Sixty-three percent of study participants were women, and over half required the use of devices to assist in walking, with 20 percent using a wheelchair. The average participant age was 50.

“We found that smoked cannabis was superior to placebo in reducing symptoms and pain in patients with treatment-resistant spasticity, or excessive muscle contractions,” Reports said.

Patients reported 50 percent less pain while using marijuana, and tests that “graded the intensity of muscle tone by measuring such things as resistance in range of motion and rigidity” showed marked improvements in the cannabis users.

UCSD researchers are calling for a larger, longer term study to confirm their findings and determine whether a lower cannabis dosage can achieve the desired physical benefits without the impact on cognitive function.

Dabbing is Becoming a New Way to get High

Dabbing Kit

Dabbing marijuana seems to be the new way of getting high, What is dabbing? “Dab” is a endearing term for consuming cannabis medicines through using super-critical extracted cannabis concentrate that is normally ”dabbed” on to a heated surface and the vapor that is created by dabbing the medicine on the heated surface is inhaled by the patient. Dabbing is a single dose of hash oil or vaporizing pure marijuana oils known as BHO or butane honey oil. The amount of hash oil one will be consuming in one hit.

Some say dabs are awesome and becoming a great way to take 1 hit and be done for. There are a few ways to dab, one is a skillet, which looks like little cymbals that you pretty much heat up with a blow torch, then apply the wax to your paper clip. Another is the glass nail, you can get a bowl with a glass nail, in which you remove the lid, take your blow torch and heat up the glass nail. There are many other ways to dag and new dabbing rigs are popping up everywhere. Some people really enjoy it, some say it is too strong. What do you think?

9 Coarse Ganja Meal

Edible Marijuana

Jonathan Gold is know for his food criticism, now he is putting up herbal meals to the test. Golden’s latest endeavor involves 9 marijuana based meal courses prepared by chef Laurent Queniu and organized by Nguyen.

Gold writes that he attended the dinner not because of the marijuana, but because “secret restaurants are increasing in importance in Los Angeles,” and “transgressive eating has become voguish.”

“The notion of an ‘herb’ dinner wasn’t especially my thing,” Gold writes. “The last time I had sampled this particular herb was many years ago, in the course of reporting a story on Snoop Dogg and his 15 pit bulls, and its culinary uses were not apparent even back then.”

The green menus included a moonshine cocktail with ganja-infused sesame oil; cured duck breast, raw yellowtail, and compressed watermelon; papaya, partridge, wild boar, and ginseng; and a marijuana-infused onion-bacon-potato tart. For dessert, the chef served panna cotta with osmanthus topped with a marijuana-coconut oil.

Millions of Dollars Worth of Marijuana Seized in Texas

On Thursday, a Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy’s found over $7.5 million dollars worth of marijuana at a truck stop.  One of the deputies made a microscopic discovery when he noticed a parked tractor-trailer had an incomplete weld.

The deputy decided to investigate the weld with a  K-9 unit.  The K-9 alerted officers to the smell of marijuana, which led them to the big find: 2,500 pounds packed inside tubes in a giant industrial rock-raker, a highway construction tool manufactured in Mexico.  Fire fighters cut through the metal container, that when they found the enormous discovery.

Investigators believe that the driver picked up the load in El Paso and had no idea that he was carrying the drugs.  This was the biggest bust ever in Parker County.

N.H. House Vote to Decriminalize Marijuana Narrowly Passes

A bill to decriminalize a person’s first two marijuana possessions under one-half ounce passes by a thread by the New Hampshire House.  Republican Speaker Bill O’Brien abstained from voting, allowing the bill to squeak by Thursday with a 162-161 vote. However, the House voted an outstanding 228-89 to kill a second bill to legalize and regulate the drug.

Under the decriminalization bill, first offenses would be violations punishable by a $250 fine. The second would be $500. Subsequent offenses would be misdemeanors subject to a year of jail time and a $1,000 fine. Offenders under 21 could also be ordered to take a drug awareness program.  All offenses are currently misdemeanors punishable by up to a $2,000 fine and a year in jail.

The bill now goes to the Senate. If it passes, Gov. John Lynch has promised to veto the measure.

“Marijuana is a controlled drug that remains illegal under federal law. New Hampshire parents are working to keep their kids away from marijuana and other drugs. We should not make the jobs of parents – or law enforcement – harder by sending a false message that some marijuana use is acceptable,” Lynch spokesman Colin Manning said after the vote.

THC-Like Brain Cell Blocked Could Help Lose Weight

According to a new study, blocking a marijuana-like chemical in the brain could help accelerate weight loss.  The study was done on mice, by researchers at the University of California at Irvine.  They engineered mice to have lower brain levels of the endocannabinoid 2-AG, a compound similar to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) believed to help regulate the metabolism.

“Endocannabinoids are our own marijuana-like chemicals. We make them, our brains make them,” said study author Daniele Piomelli, a professor of pharmacology at UC Irvine. “Their role in the brain is to control body metabolism outside the brain.”

The modified mice ate more and moved less than their unmodified counterparts without gaining weight, even when they were fed a high-fat diet.

“These mice had what really looked like a much faster metabolism than normal mice. They burned fat calories more efficiently,” said Piomelli. Specifically their brown fat, a type of fat that keeps mammals warm, became hyperactive, converting to heat much quicker than in normal mice.

The study was published today in the journal Cell Metabolism.

Piomelli said he hoped to develop drugs that could selectively diminish levels of 2-AG in the brain and, in doing so, “boost our capacity to burn fat calories.” But don’t ditch the gym membership yet, he warned. Developing the drug could take years.

“It’s not easy but certainly feasible,” Piomelli said. “First, we need to really study the mice to make sure there are no unwanted side effects. We don’t want to waste time developing drugs that can cause more harm than good.”

That would be great if marijuana could help us lose weight, but in the mean time, people should just keep eating better and exercising daily.  If anything, maybe it will at least counter all the bad food we eat from the munchies?

Four Colorado Dispensaries hit by Burglaries in the Same Night

Four Colorado Springs dispensaries were burglarized in the same night, but the police  don’t know if the burglaries are connected.  The four locations were: Happy Buddha Wellness Center, 3612 Galley Rd., We Grow Colorado, 2502 E. Bijou St., Rocky Mountain Miracles, 2316 East Bijou St. and Total Health Care, 1635 West Uintah Street.

In the Total Health Care robbery, which occurred around 2:30 a.m., police say two of the burglars wore disguises, forced their way into the business, ransacked it and escaped with the cash register. The men did not take any marijuana, police said. It’s unclear at this point what was taken in the other three burglaries.

Marijuana DUI’s Among Teens

According to a new report, issued by SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and commissioned by Liberty Mutual Insurance, 19% of teenagers in the USA say they have driven a car while under the influence of marijuana, compared to 13% who say they have driven after consuming alcohol.

Marijuana use among teens is at an all time high form the past few years.  36% of teenagers believe that consuming marijuana has no negative effects on driving skills. Surprisingly, 19% of teenagers believe that consuming alcohol does not impair their driving. Wow, really?  Just in 2009, a study by the same organizations found that 78% of teenagers believed that marijuana use had a very or extremely negative effect on driving performance.  What the hell is wrong with teens these days? I guess a lot can change in a couple of years.
