On Monday night, Michigan States forward, Derrick Nix, was arrested with marijuana possession in East Lansing Michigan. Nix spent one night in jail, then was released on bond. Today, marijuana possession charges are becoming very common between pro and college athletes.
Nix was stopped by police and charged with operating a vehicle with presence of drugs. Nix was also charged with marijuana possession.
Tom Izzo, Michigan States coach, released the following statement Tuesday:
“Based on the information we have received, Derrick Nix has been suspended indefinitely from our basketball team, and his future with our program is uncertain. He made an irresponsible decision that has put his future with our program in serious jeopardy.”
Nix averaged 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 18.9 minutes a game during the 2011-12 season. He scored a career-high 18 points against LIU-Brooklyn in the team’s second round game of the NCAA Tournament.
